A group of people created
the "Grup de Natura Freixe" in 1990 in Flix (a village
situated in the middle of an spectacular meander at the south of Catalonia,
in Spain). This association was started to discus environmental questions,
and also to give information about our rich environment. GNF organises
regularly different activities: visits to interesting zones, sensitisation
campaigns, the planting of trees... Between September and October we concentrate
our activities in "Setmanatura" which
provides photographic exhibits, movies, conferences and other activities,
all involved with the environment.
GNF also contributes to the publishing of different books and one magazine (l'Aljub). For example: the tale "Quan els arbres parlaven i els animals ballaven" (When the trees spoke and the animals danced), and a guide to a marsh land with a forest on the banks of the river Ebro near Flix, "Itinerari per l'espai natural de Sebes" (Guide of the natural space of Sebes). Sebes has been a priority for GNF since its beginning.
The space of Sebes, first had been declared Natural Interest Space by the Generalitat de Catalunya (autonomous government), afterwards, it has been declared Natural Reserve for the Wild Fauna. This space is placed on the left bank of the river Ebro, it is considered by the experts as one of the most important spaces of this kind in Catalonia, because it has a very well preserved vegetation and some rare species of birds and mammals. At the moment the area is being prepared to allow visit on the site. We are waiting for you!
