Around 1999 there was a reform of directorate generals in the commissions, and they lost the numbers they used to have. Although nowadays there is no longer any DG IV or DG XII people still talk of them out of habit, and you can find old documents refering to them. This is why we have posted here the list of obsolet DG numbers and names.
